The Spanish government office in Catalonia indicated that the Pegasus Airlines flight from Casablanca, Morocco, bound for Istanbul and carrying 228 passengers, requested to make an emergency landing at the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

As the woman was being evacuated, 27 passengers tried to flee the aircraft without authorization, officials said.

The police arrested 13 of them. The other 14 managed to evade the police at the airport and remain at large.

The woman who allegedly faked labor was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after doctors at the hospital determined that, although she was pregnant, she was not going to give birth.

Of the 13 detained passengers, five agreed to return to the plane and proceed to Istanbul. The other eight were charged with illegal entry into Spain and were to board another Pegasus flight to leave the country, officials said.

The Spanish government office did not disclose the nationalities of the passengers.
