The European Union (EU) considered that the political crisis that Peru is going through “is being channeled” in a “peaceful” manner and in accordance with “the constitutional framework”, after the dismissal this Wednesday by Congress of the president, Pedro Castillowho is under arrest.

“The European Union rejects any act that goes against the rule of law and the Constitution”, stressed Peter Stano, spokesman for the high community representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, on his Twitter account.

He added that “The Peruvian political crisis is being channeled peacefully within the constitutional framework.”

“We urge political actors and institutions in Peru to act in accordance with the law,” concluded.

Castillo was arrested after being dismissed after trying to dissolve the Legislative and call a constituent process to avoid a political trial against him.

Castillo’s gesture was described as a coup by members of his own government and was rejected by the Armed Forces and the Police.
