AMLO has been a constant figure during the hectic political months that Peru experienced during the government of Pedro Castillo. The last of those moments occurred precisely when the ousted president tried to carry out a self-coup that was frustrated with his vacancy by the Congress of the Republic.

On Thursday, AMLO confirmed that Castillo tried to seek political asylum at the Mexican embassy in Lima after his ouster. The Mexican president also assured that he ordered his ambassador to open the door of the headquarters located in San Isidro.

Castillo was detained by the National Police before arriving at the Mexican diplomatic headquarters and was directed to a police station located in downtown Lima.
