President of France calls for concrete support for Ukraine against Putin’s “cynical” strategy

The French President, Emmanuel Macrontoday called on the international community to provide concrete help to Ukraine to survive this winter in the face of Russia’s “cynical” strategy of attacking civilian infrastructure in response to its military defeats on the ground.

In the opening speech of the conference “Solidarity with the Ukrainian people”which has brought together in Paris representatives of nearly fifty countries and more than twenty international organizations, Macron affirmed that the future of the “international order” and the “stability of all”.

”It is tangible proof that Ukraine is not alone. We are (at the conference) 46 countries and 24 organizations that have responded to the call of Ukraine and France”, asserted the French head of state.

“The Ukrainian people continue to fight with admirable determination for their country and their freedom”added, “despite the horror of the crimes” committed by the “Russian occupation”.

For the French president, after the “weakness” of the Russian forces on a military level was exposed on the battlefield, Moscow opted for a “cynical” strategy of attacking civilian infrastructure to try to “bring Ukraine to its knees”.

In response to this context, the French Government decided to organize, in cooperation with kyivthis conference in Paris aimed at obtaining concrete support so that the Ukrainian population can resist this winter.

Water, transport, energy, health and food will be some of the axes of basic needs that attendees will discuss, axes for which Macron already advanced extra support from France of 76.5 million euros in addition to the 200 million already committed in the past.

Sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specified after the first hour of the conference that, in total, the pledges of aid achieved already amounted to a total of 400 million euros, although this figure was expected to increase during the day.

During his speech, Macron also stated that it will be up to Ukraine alone to “decide the future conditions” of a “lasting peace”, before giving the floor to the Ukrainian president, Volodymir Zelenskywho intervened by videoconference.

The Ukrainian president asked for support so that his country can survive this winter “despite all attempts by Russia to make Ukraine the darkest place” of the world.

Zelensky He recalled that every day in his country there are millions of people without electricity and that, in addition, they suffer new attacks from Russia, for which reason elements such as generators have become essential so that hospitals and small businesses can continue to function.

He also noted that responding to the immediate needs of its population this winter will mean “deprive Russia of the impact of its terrorist strategy” and “to prevent the wave of mass immigration” that could reach other countries because of the war.

This conference was also attended by several Prime Ministers and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, intervened with a video message in which he recalled that the war in Ukraine it is a “relentless humanitarian nightmare”, in which civilians pay the highest price and he asked for help so that this does not lead to a cascade of poverty.
