Macron “completely” assumes his visit to Qatar to support the French team in the semifinal against Morocco

The President of France, Emmanuel Macrondeclared this Thursday that he “completely” accepts the fact of going to support the French soccer team in Qatar in the World Cup, despite the controversies and the ongoing investigation into suspicions of corruption in the European Parliament.

“I fully assume”, said Macron upon arrival in Brussels for a European summit. “Four years ago I was with the national team in Russia, I am with them in Qatar”, added the president, who witnessed France’s victory in the semifinals of the World Cup over Morocco (2-0), on Wednesday night, and will be back in Doha on Sunday for the final against Argentina.

The leader ruled on the final and on the captain of his rival on Sunday, Lionel Messi. “He is a great player when he plays in Paris, but I prefer him in Paris than in his team. We will do our best. We have a lot of respect for this team. But I think the French team is well prepared, we have very young and very experienced players.”

Macron He estimated that his compatriots thought the same as him regarding the World Cup.

While, Qatar is implicated in a spectacular corruption scandal targeting Greek MEP Eva Kaili, arrested on Friday and ousted from her post as vice-president of the European Parliament.

The 44-year-old politician is accused of receiving payments from this emirate to defend her interests.
