“We are waiting for the airports to open and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing the paperwork to bring the Mexicans who are in Peru, of course if they want it,” López Obrador said at his daily press conference.

The Mexican president explained that the government has a plan to go looking for them, although he did not give details, and that the airport where many of the Mexican tourists stranded in the Andean country are found is closed.

“We are going to continue taking care of the Mexicans who are in Peru and those who want to return are doing paperwork for them to return,” he reiterated.

The now former president of Peru Pedro Castillo was arrested on December 7 after being dismissed by Congress shortly after he announced the closure of Congress, the formation of an emergency Executive, which was to govern by decree and reorganize the justice system. , which was described mainly as an attempted coup d’état.

Last Thursday, in the midst of protests in various parts of the country that have already left 17 dead, the Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office issued 18 months of preventive detention for Castillo, who had requested asylum in Mexico.

CONSIDER PERU IN A “STATE OF SIEGE”

Also asked about his position on the demonstrations that are taking place in the Andean nation, López Obrador insisted that “the vote of the citizens, democracy and not use force to repress the people must be respected.”

Last Thursday, the new government of Dina Boluarte decreed a state of emergency, although the Mexican president considered that it is a “state of siege, with the military and soldiers preventing those who are dissatisfied with the arrest of the president-elect from demonstrating.” and the way in which Congress acted.”

He also criticized the United States ambassador to Peru, Lisa Kenna, for her visit to Boluarte to convey the support of the North American country.

“They talk about democracy in the United States and about freedom, I was watching the visit of their ambassador to the Government Palace of Peru. Regardless of the fact that an ambassador can go anywhere, doesn’t it seem an act of arrogance, not taking care of the manners?, she lamented.
