The IACHR will visit Peru in the face of the crisis unleashed after the dismissal of Castillo

A delegation from the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) will visit Peru from Monday to Wednesday of next week before the crisis unleashed after the dismissal of the now former president Pedro Castillo.

The IACHR announces that it accepted the formal invitation from the State to carry out a visit to the country”, announced this Friday on social networks the IACHR, an autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The body specified that the Executive Secretariat of the IACHR is “available” to visit Peru from December 19 to 21while it foresees another visit by a rapporteur for next January.

Castillo asked Wednesday from prison that the IACHR intercede for his rightswhile the Government of the new Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, has not yet reported any request for a visit by the organization to the country.

Boluarte assumed the head of State on December 7, replacing Castillo, who He was dismissed by Congress after he ordered the dissolution of Parliament, announced the formation of an emergency Executive, which was to govern by decreeconvene a constituent assembly and reorganize the justice system.

The new president has proposed to Congress to advance the general elections to December 2023 to stop the protests unleashed after the dismissal of Castillo, who has denounced being the victim of a coup.

At least 18 people have died in the protests since last Sunday10 of them on Thursday, in the first 24 hours of application of the state of emergency decreed by Boluarte.
