London: Woman dies after stampede at concert

A 33-year-old woman died this Saturday after being injured during a stampede occurred on Thursday night at the entrance of a concert hall in Londonthe police announced.

Eight people were taken to hospital as a result of the stampedewhich occurred during a concert of Nigerian Afrobeat singer Asake.

“Unfortunately, one of the seriously injured women died in hospital on Saturday morning,” police said in a statement. “Specialized agents continue to provide support to her family”added the armed body.

The police identified the woman deceased as Rebecca Ikumelo, of London.

“I am devastated by the news”Asake said on Instagram, adding that he has spoken to those close to her and will continue to do so.

I feel overwhelmed with grief, and I never imagined that something like this could happen ”he added.

The police detailed this Saturday that two other women, aged 21 and 23, are still hospitalized in a critical situation.

The causes of the incident, which occurred in the O2 Academy room, in the Brixton neighborhood (south of London).

On Friday, the police explained that the agents were called because “a large number of people tried to force entry.”

According to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the concert it was canceled halfway through, to boos from onlookers, with organizers announcing that “3,000 people have forced the doors from the outside”.

Before their concerts in LondonAsake had posted messages on Twitter asking people without a ticket not to go to the O2 Academy.
