Hernández Lárez pointed out that the detainees were associated with the so-called “tancol” groups, an acronym invented by the Venezuelan government that does not refer to any specific gang and that means “armed Colombian drug-trafficking terrorists.”

In another operation, carried out in the same municipality, members of the FANB arrested a woman who was transporting a dozen packages of marijuana hidden in some cheese, the official said on the social network.

On Friday, the military detained three people for transporting 30 kilos of marijuana in the western state of Zulia, which borders Colombia, according to the head of the National Anti-drug Command of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB, militarized police), Alberto Matheus.

From January to December 15, authorities have seized a total of 46,958 kilos of drugs in 7,412 procedures, during which they arrested 9,242 people, according to the national anti-drug superintendent, Richard López Vargas.
