The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskywill visit the White House on Wednesday, where he will be received by his counterpart from USA, Joe Bidenon his first trip abroad since the start of the war in his country on February 24, local media reported on Tuesday.

The CNN television network noted that Biden and Zelensky “plan to meet at the White House on Wednesday,” which coincides with the US government’s intention to send a new military aid package to Ukraine, which would include for the first time Patriot air defenses.

At the moment, the White House has not confirmed Zelensky’s possible visit or that that shipment will be announced tomorrow.

The Hill outlet, citing a Senate aide, added that Zelensky is also expected to go to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, which has also not been officially confirmed.

According to that source, the speaker of the Lower House, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, sent a letter to lawmakers on Tuesday to encourage them to “be present for a very special focus on democracy on Wednesday night.”

Zelensky’s visit to the US Congress would take place amid negotiations to push through a new budget for fiscal year 2023 that includes $45 billion in new emergency funds to help Ukraine.
