Two Cuban hospital workers arrested in possession of human hearts

The National Revolutionary Police (PNR) is investigating a couple of workers at a hospital in eastern Santiago de Cuba who were in possession of two hearts “of possible human origin,” local media reported Monday.

The event occurred on December 9. The detainees worked as eviscerator and occupational therapist, respectively, in the Hospital Surgical Clinic Ambrosio Grillo Portuondoas confirmed by the Provincial Directorate of the Ministry of Public Health of Santiago de Cuba on social networks.

The news was released after, days before, versions of an alleged case of organ trafficking began to circulate. So far, the authorities have not provided further details in this regard.

In addition to the PNR, there is a “sector commission” that investigates the events, according to the provincial newspaper Escambray.
