Brazilian police detain a man with explosives and a knife trying to enter Lula’s inauguration

According to the Federal Police of the Federal District, The 31-year-old man was detained at a checkpoint at the entrance to the Esplanade of the Ministries.

“The man came from Rio de Janeiro to participate in the event and during a search fireworks and a knife were found,” police said in a statement.

Security in Brasilia has been tightened in recent days following the arrest of George Washington de Oliveira Sousa, who confessed to having planned a bomb attack in the city to cause chaos before the inauguration: an explosive device was seized.
