Boric discusses with Lula the resumption of South American integration

The president of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvareceived this Monday his Chilean counterpart, Gabriel Boric, with whom he discussed various initiatives for a resumption of integration processes in the South American sphere.

“I met the Chilean president, Gabriel Boric, and we talked about the immense potential of economic collaboration and the development of international partnerships between Brazil and Chile for the development of our region,” indicated in his social networks Lula, 77 years old and who assumed power this Sunday.

Boric, 36 years old and the youngest member of the new regional left, for his part told reporters that the appointment with Lula has allowed “resuming a long and fruitful relationship” with Brazil, about which he hopes “go back to what it was”alluding to the cooling that occurred during the administration of the far-right Jair Bolsonaro.

The Chilean president explained that he spoke with Lula about some integration initiatives that exist in the region, among which he cited his interest in the “bi-oceanic corridor”, a highway that will link ports of Brazil and Chile through Argentina and Paraguay.

He pointed out that another “area” of cooperation will be the fight against the climate crisis and the possibility of South America discussing a common position for the next United Nations conference on the subject.

Boric was one of the foreign leaders who attended the inauguration of Lula this Sunday, who dedicated his first day in government to diplomacy and had bilateral meetings with various delegations that traveled to Brasilia for the inauguration.

Among others, he received the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and the presidents of Argentina, Alberto Fernández; Bolivia, Luis Arce; Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso.
