An elderly man escaped certain death after being pinched and nearly falling on the rails.

The pensioner was rescued by a quick-thinking railway worker after he made an ill-advised sprint to board a moving train at Purnia Junction railway station in the eastern Indian state of Bihar.

The footage shows him running onto the platform and trying to jump onto the carriage, which is already leaving the station.

Fellow passengers watched in shock as he lost his footing and was dragged across the platform surface, risking falling onto the rails below the train.

But just in time, the nearby railroad worker rushed over and dragged him to safety before the train came to a stop.

State-owned Indian Railways shared the video online and tweeted in Hindi: “An alarmed RPF Jawan rescued a passenger who had an accident while boarding a moving train in Bihars Purnia. Please do not attempt to get on or off a moving train. ‘

There was a lot of praise for the savior in the comments posted in response, with Manish N. Koparkar saying, “Holiday to that RPF Jawan who saved a life. May God bless you.”

Ravi Kumar wrote: “Well done!! You did a good job. You saved someone’s precious life. I was on this train.”

Another said, “He deserves an outrageous promotion,” while another commenter insisted, “We often see incidents like this. There must be some kind of permanent solution that needs to be implemented.”
