Allen Weisselberg, former head of the Trump Organization, is sentenced to five months in jail

The former financial director of the Trump Organization, whose testimony helped find the former US president’s company guilty donald trump for tax fraud, he will be sent to Rikers Island jail in New York after receiving a five-month sentence behind bars on Tuesday.

Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty in August and admitted that, from 2005 to 2017, he and other executives received bonuses and benefits that saved the company money and their own tax accounting.

The sentence was imposed by Judge Juan Merchan in a court of the state of New York, in Manhattan.

Under the August agreement, Weisselberg75, agreed to plead guilty to 15 financial crimes and to testify against the company, which he has worked for since the mid-1980s.

Nevertheless, Weisselberg he will be eligible to be released in just over three months if he maintains good conduct.

As part of the agreement, Weisselberg will also have to pay about $12 million in taxes, penalties and interest, which he says he is already beginning to pay. He must also complete five years of supervised release.

Weisselberg faced the possibility of 15 years in prison — the maximum sentence on the financial theft charge — if he did not accept the agreement or if he lied when testifying in the trial against the Trump Organization. He is the only person charged in the Manhattan district attorney’s three-year investigation into Trump and his financial practices.

Weisselberg testified for three days, offering a glimpse into the internal operations of Trump’s real estate emporium. He worked for the Trump family for nearly 50 years, starting as an accountant for Trump’s father, Fred Trump, in 1973 before being hired by Donald Trump in 1986 and helping the company expand its interests beyond New York City. to include golf courses and hotel chains.

Weisselberg told the jury that he violated the trust of the Trump family by conspiring with an underling to hide for more than a decade extra income such as a Manhattan apartment, luxury cars and his grandchildren’s private schools. He asserted that they tampered with payroll records and W-2 tax forms.
