Gunmen kill former Afghan MP Mursal Nabizada at her home in Kabul

Armed men killed a former deputy early Sunday morning afghan at his own home in Kabul, and to one of his bodyguards, police said.

Mursal Nabizadaan MP during the previous Western-backed government, had refused to leave Afghanistan when the Taliban seized power in August 2021.

The 32-year-old woman was shot down at night by unknown assailants.Afghan police spokesman Khalid Zadran told reporters.

One of his brothers was injured in the attack.detailed the same source in a statement.

The security forces opened an investigation to try to “find the criminals and bring them to justice,” the police spokesman added.

Mursal Nabizada was elected as an MP for Kabul in 2018.

His former partner in Parliament Mariam Solaimankhil paid tribute to a “true pioneer”. “A strong woman, who spoke clearly, and who stood up for what she believed in, even in the face of danger,” wrote on Twitter.

“Although they offered him the possibility of leaving AfghanistanHe chose to stay and fight for his people.”added Mariam Solaimankhil.

During the two decades of US-led military intervention in Afghanistanwomen rose to important positions throughout Afghan society, with many becoming judges, police officers and journalists, or entering politics.

Many of these women however went into exile when the Taliban regained power in August 2021.

These have since placed draconian restrictions on women’s freedom, keeping them out of public jobs and preventing them from going to secondary school or university, more recently.

They also ordered women to cover up in public spaces, ideally with a full veil or burqa.
