Eight people, including five children, were injured after a Thai Navy helicopter dropped flowers and sweets at a National Children’s Day event.

The rain from the plane was so heavy that the roof of a stadium collapsed and large tents fell over.

One woman, Narerat Khumkana, 58, was even taken to hospital with a broken neck and a dismembered head.

Two other adults and five children were also taken to hospital, but were released soon after.

Footage shows the crowd dispersing as the candy falls on them, many screaming and covering their heads.

The roof of the stadium also collapses under the weight of the candy and flowers as the crowd watches.

The local Tha Chang city office had asked the Chantaburi and Trat Navy Border Defense Command to arrange the ferry crossing, the Bangkok Post reported.

Mayor Tawatchai Chantakit has confirmed that the injured will be fully compensated.

The Thai Navy has also apologized and Commander-in-Chief Admiral Tawatchai Chantakit has ordered financial and medical aid.

Tha Chang is a town in Tha Muang District in southeastern Thailand, about 240 kilometers east of Bangkok.

Thailand’s National Children’s Day takes place on a weekend every year and is celebrated with activities and an introduction to how they will contribute to the development of their country.
