Mother of a young man lynched in Bogotá was stabbed: what was not known about the crime

At 12:20 in the morning of this Thursday, February 23, the sound of the alarms in the Chircales and La Carolina neighborhoods, in the town of Rafael Uribe Uribe, woke up the community colombian. In one of the parks in the area, a brawl broke out that ended in tragedy for the Velandia Sepúlveda family.

Shouts and rudeness sounded. Bottles and knives were flying. From the windows the neighbors watched horrified what was happening and how a group of young people attacked the family.

Major Oswaldo Marín, commander of Rafael Uribe Uribe’s Police, told EL TIEMPO that a group of young people were hanging out in a shuffleboard court in the area and left a car parked near the Velandia house.

Visibly obfuscated by the noises of the group, the young Juan Carlos Velandia, 24 years old and who apparently was in a state of intoxication, He threw a bottle at another boy and broke a window in the car, a gray Hyundai i10.

After the attack, the boy ran to his friends and a fight began with bladed weapons. Velandia, who received heavy blows, also tried to attack, but was reduced by the group’s daggers. From the window, Gladys Sepúlveda and Juan de Jesús Velandia, the young man’s parents, and one of his brothers saw what was happening and decided to help their relative.

They tried to mediate the violent attack against Juan Carlos, but they were also attacked with knives. When Gladys tried to take refuge in her house, she fell from the stairs due to the serious injuries she suffered and died there.

His son Juan Carlos was also murdered and after the lynching his body was left on a platform near his house. Meanwhile, Juan de Jesús is hospitalized after suffering an open head wound. The other brother escaped from the place after receiving attacks.

The older Marín also told EL TIEMPO that the group of people who murdered the mother and son fled the scene of the crime. After calling the police, the agents identified the vehicle and found three of the suspects involved in a medical center, where they were captured.

The people apprehended were identified as Darío González García, 35 years old; Jhon Stiven Devia García, 24, and Miller García Garzón, 22. The young people, who would be relatives, are in the hands of the authorities to answer for the double homicide.
