35 years in prison will pay a man for murdering a policeman in the north of Bogotá

A judge sentenced Wilkerson Slyke Hernández Sánchez to 35 years in prison for the crimes of homicide and attempted homicide, both aggravated, for the murder of patrolman Edwin Caro Gómez, attached to the Chapinero Police station in Colombia.

The evidence presented by a specialized trial prosecutor was sufficient to determine that on the day of the events, Hernández Sánchez, along with another Venezuelan citizen, were requested by the National Police in a routine procedure and when the uniformed tried to search them they were attacked with firearms.

The uniformed men reacted and in the crossfire the patrolman Edwin Arnoldo Caro Gómez and a Venezuelan citizen were killed. In a matter of seconds, Caro Gómez’s partner reacted and took out his sidearm to shoot the other man who fell to the ground.

The ordinary sentence declared criminally responsible to Wilkerson Slike Hernández Sánchez and must pay the main penalty of 35 years in prison in the place of confinement where he is detained.

As soon as the man completes his sentence in Bogotá, he will be expelled from Colombia.
