Blinken, in favor of the return of the US to UNESCO to counterbalance China

The head of US diplomacy, Anthony Blinkenpleaded Wednesday for the return of USA to the Unesco especially to counterbalance China in that agency UN.

The United States withdrew from the agency of the UN during the administration of donald trump at the end of 2018 in retaliation for an alleged position against Israel.

Until 2011, the United States paid about 22% of Unesco’s budget, around 80 million dollars, the year in which the Palestinians were admitted as members of the agency for education, culture, and science.

Currently China is the largest contributor to UnescoBlinken noted. “We’re not even at the table. It is important that we return”, he indicated.

The US State Department requested $150 million to finance its eventual return to that agency in the Biden administration’s 2024 budget proposal, recently submitted to Congress for consideration.
