Nancy González, the jet set designer, will be extradited from Colombia to the United States

The government of President Gustavo Petro signed the extradition of the renowned designer Nancy Gonzalez from Colombia to the United States.

The designer is accused of making wallets, bags and other products with skins of stifles, alligators, snakes, among other wild species, for which A Florida court requested her extradition with the aim of trying her for the crimes of “conspiracy to import and bring wildlife into the United States against the law.”

González, founder of CI Diseño y Moda International SASa company that he created in 1998 in Cali and that became one of the most recognized brands in the countryfell in the middle of the Yacaré operation, led by the National Directorate of Police Carabineros. Along with her, two other people were captured for alleged trafficking in exotic skins. They are Diego Mauricio Rodríguez Giraldo and Jhon Camilo Aguilar Jaramillo.

“During the investigation, it was possible to verify that between two and five animal species were used to make and manufacture garments and bags, which were sold in exclusive stores in the United States and Europe (…) a skin of these animals is sold on the black market between 100 and 500 dollars and a ready-made bag sells for between 5,000 and 10,000 dollars in a store”explained at the time the director of carabineros of the National Police, Major General Alejandro Barrera.

The designer could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for the crime of merchandise smuggling.

Since his capture, he has been deprived of his liberty and although he tried to obtain it on several occasions, it was denied. gonzalez was sent to the extraditable pavilion of the El Buen Pastor women’s prison in Bogotá.

“It was not necessary to deploy an operation with snipers and video cameras to materialize the arrest warrant against me. I was always ready to appear, as the prosecutors in the case in the United States know. The deprivation of my liberty in a high-security cell was unnecessary when, during my 69 years of life, I have never been linked to a sentence, ”he stated in November.
