Ukraine insists on joining NATO as Finland will do today

The foreign minister of Ukraine, Dmytro Kulebasaid Tuesday that his country “is looking forward to” entering the NATOjust like he will do today Finlandwhich is to become the thirty-first allied country.

“We congratulate our Finnish friends on their access. Ukraine is looking forward to achieving the same goal, becoming a full member of the NATOassured Kuleba upon their arrival at the meeting that they are holding today in Brussels the foreign ministers of the alliancewhere kyiv participate as a guest country.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy assured that “the NATO and Ukraine need each other” and assured that “There is no better structural solution to guarantee strategic security in the Euro-Atlantic region than the entry of Ukraine in the alliance”.

Ukraine, in fact, asked to join the NATO last September 30, but the allies have so far not accepted his request. In the midst of the war against Russia, its entry could immediately trigger a direct confrontation with Moscowwhen applying the collective defense clause.

As usual, Kuleba will meet today with their counterparts from the NATOwith whom he will discuss the situation of the war on the ground, although he is not expected to kyiv get new arms delivery pledges today.

The foreign ministers of the alliance they do plan to agree on a multi-year program to help Ukraine upgrade their Soviet-era military systems to the standards of the NATO.

The NATO-Ukraine Commission – of which Hungary was initially suspicious – will be held after the entry ceremony of Finland in the NATOin which the Turkish Foreign Minister will hand over the instrument of ratification of the Washington Treaty to the Secretary of State for USA, Anthony Blinkenand the Finnish flag will be raised along with that of the other 30 allies.
