Ecuador: They find six prisoners hanging in a jail

Penitentiary servers found this Wednesday six prisoners hanging in a pavilion of a prison in the coastal city of Guayaquilas reported by National Comprehensive Care Service for Adults Deprived of Liberty and Adolescent Offenders (SNAI).

“Servants of the Security Corps and Penitentiary Surveillanceduring the review of flags in the CPL Guayas No. 1they identified six people deprived of liberty suspended”, indicated the SNAI in a message to the press.

He added that the servers immediately notified the competent authorities and proceeded with the lifting of the bodies

“This Service and the authorities of the Center provide all facilities to institutionsexpectations for the corresponding procedures and investigations”said the SNAI without providing further details of what happened.

This is yet another act of violence in the prisons of Ecuador where, in 2022, 6 massacres were recorded that, as a group, totaled more than 100 murdered inmates, although they are more than 450 inmates killed since 2020.

According to the Ecuadorian authorities, the frequent brawls in the prisons of the country are due to the struggle between criminal gangs that are trying to gain control of the prisonsalthough the system also suffers from overcrowding and scarce budgets.
