More than 300 immigrants of various nationalities entered the early hours of this Wednesday into the Colchane Border Complex after staying for long hours stranded in the border area between Chili and bolivianbeing affected by the inclement temperatures of the altiplano night, especially infants and elderly adults.

As reported by local authorities mattressthe municipal management allowed the government to accommodate the affected people in the migratory response facilities after the large group was prevented from entering Bolivia because they would have arrived illegally in Chilean territory.
“We had to go with the health team to provide care to the affected people. We transfer children, pregnant women and other people with altitude sickness to the emergency room. This situation worries us. The temperatures are very low and this can bring complications to your health”pointed out the director of Municipal Health of Colchane, Yolanda Flores.
According to the director of the National Migration Service, Louis Thayer119 people of Bolivian nationality with diverse immigration status are being submitted to procedures.

“This is an expedited procedure that It will be resolved in the morning. There is a small, more complex group that does not have any identity documents. In this case, people will be checked with the respective consulate, as long as from Chili no one can leave without proving their identity”the official said.
In recent years, dozens of people have died in their attempt to cross the bofedales (wetlands) from the border area.
