Italy: Silvio Berlusconi leaves the intensive care unit of a Milan hospital

Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconiwho suffers from chronic leukemia, has been transferred from the intensive care unit to a regular ward at the Milan hospital, where he is being treated for a lung infection, his brother said, according to statements published on Sunday.

Italian news agency LaPresse also reported that Berlusconi was released from the hospital’s intensive care unit.where he was admitted on April 5.

The hospital declined to comment on the accounts, but said that on Monday it will issue an updated medical report on Berlusconi’s condition.

Matteo Salvini, a political ally of Berlusconi and a minister in the current government, tweeted: “Good luck, Silvio, my friend” and offered a link to Corriere’s report.

Berlusconi was hospitalized for what his doctors called a lung infection. During his hospitalization, his doctors publicly revealed that the former prime minister suffers from chronic leukemia.

In previous years, Berlusconi has suffered from health problems and in 2020 he was admitted to the same hospital, in critical condition, for COVID-19.

His party, Forza Italia, which he founded 30 years ago, and Salvini’s party, called La Liga, are partners in the government coalition led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Unlike Salvini, who is infrastructure and transport minister, Berlusconi has no position in the current government.
