Russia imposes a new fine on Twitch for “fake news” about Ukraine

a court of Moscow fined 4 million rubles ($49,000) on Tuesday, the seventh fine in less than a year, to the popular live video platform twitchbelonging to the American giant Amazonfor not removing “false information” about the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.

The judge considered twitch guilty of infringing article 41 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Russiawhich punishes the refusal to remove “unreliable information aimed at the destabilization of the socio-political situation in the country”, reported the Interfax agency.

He Court confirmed the refusal ofremove four materials related to the Russian military campaign in Ukrainean eventual nuclear war and a possible general mobilization in Russia.

These materials were detected by the Russian Prosecutor’s Office, which filed a lawsuit against the streaming service.

twitch was successively fined in July, August, October and December 2022, and also January 2023, with a total amount exceeding 20 million rubles (more than $245,000) for “false information” about the Russian army, interviews with Ukrainian analysts and the refusal to store the data on Russian servers.
