Young man shot after knocking on the wrong door was invited to the White House

A black teenager who was shot twice by an elderly man after he mistakenly rang his doorbell was invited to visit the president Joe Biden in the White Housewhile the attacker turned himself in to the authorities.

Ralph Jarl16, was shot twice on Thursday night, one in the head, in the state of Missouriafter he rang the wrong house while going to look for his twin brothers.

Biden criticized the incident as another example of the country’s failure to deal with widespread gun violence.

“No parent should worry about their child being shot after ringing the wrong doorbell. We have to keep up the fight against gun violenceBiden tweeted, adding that he spoke to Yarl and his family the night before.

“And Ralph, we’ll see you in the Oval (office) when you’re feeling better.”, added the president.

Clay County Prosecutor, Zachary Thompsonannounced that the old man, identified as andrew lester -84 years old- was charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action.

Lester turned himself in on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Clay County Sheriff’s Department told AFP.

According to court documents, Lester said he thought the teen was trying to break into his residence and fired through the glass. His bail was set at $200,000.

Outrage over the case grew over the weekend after it was learned that Lester had been released without charge after being detained for 24 hours.
