This law, officially called “Parental rights in education”, it is already in effect between kindergarten and third grade and has now been expanded to all K-12, as the public education system up to secondary school is known.

The extension arose from a proposal by DeSantiswhich with the help of the Republican majority in the Florida Congress is implementing a battery of ultra-conservative laws in areas such as reproductive rights, immigration, and possession and ownership of weapons.

Under the law, signed by the Republican governor in March 2022, parents will have the ability to file lawsuits against the school district and receive a Compensation for damages, if they breach this provision.

The administration of DeSantis submitted the proposal last month as part of the “aggressive agenda” Conservative before his planned candidacy in the 2024 elections to occupy the White HouseFlorida media review today.

The proposal will become effective after a notice period of procedure that lasts about a monthnoted the Department of Education.

The Florida Human Rights and Equality Campaign (Equality Florida) reacted by saying that “This policy will intensify the government censorship sweeping across our state, exacerbate our exodus of educators, drive working families out of Florida, and further stigmatize and isolate a population of young people who need our support now more than ever.”

President, Joe Bidencondemned this law in his day as something hateful to the community LGBTQ+.

Likewise, Disneywhich has its theme parks in Orlando and is one of the largest employers and political donors in the state, opposed the measure.

The entertainment giant publicly opposed the legislation last year and, as punishment, DeSantis pressured legislators to give him control of an autonomous district that Disney supervises on its theme park properties.
