Flash in the Kiev sky. If someone believed for a few minutes in a new air attack from Russia, especially on social networks, it turned out not to be so. A huge luminous halo that crossed the sky of the Ukrainian capital was caused by the fall of a NASA satellite, the city administration reports.
“At about 22:00, a glow of an air object was observed in the sky over Kiev. According to preliminary information, this phenomenon is a consequence of the fall of a NASA satellite to the ground, ”Sergey Popko, head of the military administration of the city of Kyiv, said on Telegram.

Also, according to this official, according to the Kyiv Independent, an air raid alert was issued to protect against debris flying from the sky. Kyiv also clarifies that the city’s air defense did not intercept the satellite.
Shortly thereafter, the Ukrainian Air Force also stated that the outbreak was “associated with the fall of a satellite / meteorite”, while saying that this has yet to be clarified. “Social media have fun spreading flying saucer memes, but please don’t use the official Air Force logo to create memes,” the police added.
On Tuesday, space media reported that NASA’s RHESSI satellite, which studied the sun from 2002 to 2018, will fall to Earth in the coming days. According to US military estimates, the satellite was supposed to return to the Earth’s atmosphere on Wednesday around 20:00.
