Pope Francis asks to give full confidence to women, “many times underestimated”

He Pope Francisco asked today to give “full confidence to women” who “many times are underestimated in their productive value”, during the audience of some 10,000 faithful who came to Saint Peter’s Square to give thanks for the beatification of Armida Barelli, co-founder of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart.

Francisco praised the figure of Barelliwho was also a movement leader “Catholic Action” and that, he said, “it was a “a formidable precursor of female leadership in the ecclesial and social spheres”.

And in this regard, he pointed out that today there is “the need for an integrated model that combines competence and performance, often associated with the role malewith the care of the links, listening, the ability to mediate, to work in a network and to make relationships grow, for a long time considered the prerogative of the female gender and often underestimated in its productive value”.

And he also advocated “the necessary integration and reciprocity of differences”.

“Also today we need women who, guided by faith, are capable of leaving their mark on the spiritual lifein education and in vocational training”, he added.

On the other hand, he invited the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart “To have today the same educational impetus and the same formative initiative that guided Father Agostino Gemelli and Blessed Armida Barelli”, who precisely “Through the university they helped form the civic conscience in hundreds of thousands of youthsincluding many women”.
