Mexican opposition calls for transparency on AMLO’s state of health

Mexican opposition parties demanded greater transparency about the president’s state of health Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorafter rumors that he could have suffered a heart attack due to his third infection of covid-19although they have been denied by the Government.

“There is nothing like that, they would like to, but he is in perfect health. He said it himself yesterday, he is 100% in terms of his heart health. And well, I think that no one should be scared by the fact that they have been infected with covid”, indicated the Secretary of the Interior, Adam Augusto Lopezwho this Monday replaced the president in the daily government conferences.

However, various opposition parties demanded greater transparency about the state of López Obrador’s health.

“Adán Augusto is not a doctor and the government of which he is a part is irresponsible in assuring – without further proof than his word – that López Obrador is in full health. It wouldn’t be the first time they lied about it, if he has covid-19 let them prove it”, wrote the president of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), Jesus Zambranoon his Twitter account.

In addition, he added that the health of the president “it is a matter of public interest” and “the isolation in the National Palace”, his residence and where the president will spend the disease, “It is not new”, presumably alluding to the little exposure of López Obrador, little given to appearing other than at government events, his daily press conferences or international summits.

In a press conference, the senator of the National Action Party (BREAD) Kenya Lopez insisted on the demand for transparency.

“Let’s hope that (López Obrador) recovers soon and that his state of health is made public. We will be waiting for the official information that is provided to Mexicans”, he pointed out.

Along the same lines, the association Unitswhich brings together opposition parties such as the PAN, the PRD or the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in its eagerness to run for election and govern in coalition, wished the president a speedy recovery.

“We request that the public be informed immediately with truthful and serious information about the state of the health of the head of the Federal Executive Power, as it is a matter of national security.”, added Unid@s through Twitter.

López Obrador reported on Sunday his contagion of covid-19 while touring in Yucatanin the southeast of the country.

The health of the 69-year-old president is causing concern because he had already fallen ill with covid-19 twice, the first in January 2021 and the second in January 2022.

In addition, the Mexican ruler suffers from hypertension. In January 2022 he had a catheterization, a heart scan, and in December 2013 he suffered an acute myocardial infarction, for which he then had coronary surgery.

In the message published on the presidential Twitter account to announce his convalescence, López Obrador assured that his heart “is at 100″ and that is “will save a few days”.
