Coronation of Charles III: program day by day, hour by hour

The last coronation in Great Britain dates back to 70 years. In honor of the coronation of King Charles III, three days of celebrations are planned from Saturday, May 6 to Monday, May 8, eight months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The program includes two processions in two different carriages, a spinach pie and a concert at Windsor.

SATURDAY, MAY 6

“Royal procession”

The procession will lead Charles III and his wife Camilla from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, referred to as the “royal procession”. The royal couple will travel aboard the Diamond Jubilee Coach, set up in 2012 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, Buckingham said in a statement.

The coronation ceremony of Charles III will begin at 11 am (12 noon in France) at Westminster Abbey. It will be celebrated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church. “The service will reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future, steeped in tradition and age-old spectacle,” the British Royal Palace said. Charles’ wife Camilla will become queen consort.

“Coronation Procession”

The newly crowned heads will travel to Buckingham Palace along the same route as the aisle, along with other members of the royal family, to participate in the “Coronation Procession”. The King and Queen, accompanied by the armed forces of Great Britain, the Commonwealth and the overseas territories of the country, will parade in another carriage, the famous Gold State Coach, which has been used at all coronations for almost 200 years.

At the conclusion of the first day of celebrations, the King and Queen Consort will appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, along with the royal family, to greet the crowd, as required by tradition.

SUNDAY, MAY 7

“Big Coronation Breakfast”

Charles III and the Queen’s wife are inviting the British to take part in the “Great Coronation Dinner” (“Great Dinner”) by hosting parties in the neighborhood and accepting the official lunch menu. Concert at Windsor Castle

At 20:00 (9:00 in France), an almost two-hour concert dedicated to the coronation of King Charles III will take place at Windsor Castle. The concert, broadcast by the BBC, will be shown at St James’ Stadium in Newcastle. In the program, singers Lionel Richie, Katy Perry or Andrea Bocelli will perform on stage in front of ten thousand spectators. Amateur singers will join the performance of the artists. American actor Tom Cruise and Winnie the Pooh will perform on stage.

MONDAY, MAY 8

Make way for Big Help. This day consists of promoting volunteer work through associations and partners such as Scouts and pays tribute to the public service of King Charles III.
