The call throne of saint edward was commissioned in 1296 by Edward I to house one of the most important symbols of the island’s history, the so-called scon stonee, that the aforementioned king captured in the abbey of that name after defeating the Scots.

Since the 14th century, both the throne and the stone on which the monarchs sat have been a central element in the coronation ceremonies of British sovereigns.

In 1996, London returned the stone of scone to the Scots, who display it in Edinburgh Castle, on condition that it be returned to be used in coronations. The sandstone block arrived yesterday, Saturday, in the British capital from Scotland to be used within a week.

However, the St. Edward’s Throne is just one of several seats that will be used in the ceremony. In a statement, Buckingham explained that, according to tradition, kings Carlos and Camilla they will sit on different Heritage Chairs, Thrones and Congregation Chairs.

In the interest of sustainability, Their Majesties have chosen to use chairs and thrones from the Royal Collection made for previous coronations. They have been preserved, restored and adapted as required”, explained the royal house in the note.

The Heritage Chairsmade of gold-plated beech wood, were made in 1953 for the coronation ceremony of the sovereign’s mother, Elizabeth II, on June 2 of that year, and will now be used at the coronation ceremony of Queen Camila and in the beginning of the ceremony.

Meanwhile, the Thrones for Enthronement and Tribute They were created for the coronation of George VI and Elizabethgrandparents of the monarch, on May 12, 1937.

For their part, a hundred Chairs of the Congregationcovered in blue velvet, will also be used in the westminster abbey next Saturday.

After the celebration, these chairs will be auctioned and the profits will go to charitable foundations.
