Zelensky calls for declaring May 8 Victory Day against Nazism

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskywill register this Monday a law in the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) to declare May 8 as victory day against him Nazism also in Ukrainewhich until now celebrated May 9 just like Russia.

Today I will send a law to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposing May 8 as Victory Remembrance Day against him Nazism in the Second World War from 1939-1945“, said Zelensky in a recorded address to the nation from the kyiv park located on the banks of the Dnipro River that commemorates this historic landmark.

Thus, Zelensky it aligns Ukraine with the rest of the European countries, which celebrate the victory of the allies against Nazism on May 8.

Zelensky remembered that Ukraine was a prominent part of the USSR and claimed the role of the Ukrainian people in the military victory over the Nazis. The Ukrainian president recalled that 8 million Ukrainians perished in the World War IIand stressed that the victory was achieved thanks to the efforts of many countries.

“We will not let anyone erase the role of the Ukrainians in this victory”said the head of the Ukrainian state.

“Different nations opposed evil with unity, as allies of the anti-Hitler coalition”said Zelensky.The nations of Europe, America, Asia, Australia, Africa, They all have their own story in this war, but also the common story of victory.”he added.

Three brothers of a grandfather of Zelensky they were killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust, while his grandfather fought on the front lines with the Red Army and survived the war.
