The Holy Seein accordance with its own nature and its particular mission, undertakes to protect the inviolable dignity of every person, to promote the common good and to promote the human brotherhood among all the peoples”, said the pontiff to the new diplomats of Iceland, Bangladesh, Syria, The Gambia and Kazakhstan.

He explained that “These efforts, which do not involve the persecution of political, commercial or military purposesare achieved through the exercise of positive neutrality”.

AND “far from being an ‘ethical neutrality’, above all before the human sufferingThis gives the Holy See a well-defined position in the international community that allows it to better contribute to conflict resolution and other issues.” emphasized.

In his speech, Francis mentioned some of the most dramatic conflicts in the world, such as Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Lebanon and Israeland referred to the “ongoing war in Ukrainewhich has brought untold suffering and death.”

The Pope is expected to receive this afternoon at the Vatican to Zelenskywho will previously hold meetings with the Italian president, Sergio Mattarella, and the prime minister, Giorgia Meloniin a meeting apparently considered private, so it is unknown if information about it will come out.

The meeting will take place in the midst of the Vatican peace mission announced by the pontiff on the return flight from his recent trip to Hungary and of which the details are not yet known, although a Vatican source has told Russian media that the meeting “not directly related” to it and that Zelensky requested the meeting with Francisco “just a few days ago.”

Three days ago, the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolínconsidered that the mission to stop the war in Ukraine announced by the Pope Francis ‘will carry on’ and revealed that “there are news”, but that they are of “reserved character”.

It will be the first date between the two since the war began, although they already know each other because Francisco received in audience Zelensky on February 8, 2020 and already on that occasion there was talk “of the humanitarian situation and the search for peace” andin the context “of the conflict that, since 2014, continues to plague Ukraine”.

The Pope received on April 27 the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhalwho insisted on the invitation to visit Ukraine and also asked him for help so that the Ukrainian children taken by force to Russia.
