These statements come after a truce was agreed last night, with the mediation of Egyptconfirmed by both parties through official statements.

This ceasefire put an end to the most violent escalation in the area since August 2022, which left 33 Palestinians dead – at least 15 of them civilians including six children – and 147 wounded in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health of the enclave.

On the Israeli side, there were two fatalities as a result of rocket launches from Gaza: an 80-year-old woman and a Palestinian worker residing in the Strip who was working in Israel. In all, 32 people were injured in Israel, but only seven from shrapnel, cave-ins or broken glass, while the rest suffered injuries while running for bomb shelters.

The Israeli Army reported today that a total of 1,469 rockets were fired from Gaza during the five days of hostilities. Of this number, the majority fell in open areas while 437 were intercepted.

An Israeli military official explained that 290 projectiles were unsuccessful launches and fell inside the Strip itself, causing three deaths.

As for the Israeli bombardments, they impacted 422 Islamic Jihad targets, including military command centers and selective assassinations of six high-ranking officials of the group, considered terrorist by Israel, the European Union and USA.

With the exception of a last exchange of fire around midnight, since the truce agreed yesterday at 10:00 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT), the situation has remained relatively stable and the population on both sides of the separation fence has started to get back to the routine.

This afternoon, however, air raid alarms went off again in Israeli communities near Gaza. The Army confirmed that it was the launch of a rocket from the enclave towards Israel, which impacted an unpopulated area, but the militias of the Strip quickly explained that it was an accidental shot resulting from a technical problem, and reaffirmed their commitment to the truce. .
