“I confess: it is the first time that I am afraid of what could happen, not for me, for my family,” says the letter read by Camila Zuluaga on May 31, where she explains that the images show her with her daughter so only one year, her husband and a person who works at home.

“Whoever publishes the video, accompanied by totally false information, President, is a fanatical follower of yours on social networks, whom you have endorsed in the past, commenting on his messages, even in relation to me, when he has sought to carry out a digital campaign to discredit me and, later, threaten to scrutinize my life”, the letter mentions.

In the letter, Camila Zuluaga indicates that it is a “direct attack” on the integrity of her family. “It is an intimidating act and that I describe as extremely serious and is a consequence of the attitude that you yourself have assumed with the media with us journalists through your Twitter account,” she said.

In this regard, the Foundation for the Freedom of the Press (FLIP) of Colombia spoke out and expressed its rejection of the monitoring of Camila Zuluaga, adding that it is a video released by a “follower of Gustavo Petro”, whom the president has retweeted on a few occasions.

The Foundation for the Freedom of the Press affirmed that Gustavo Petro, as head of state, must not discredit, delegitimize or attack any journalist or media outlet. They added that as president he has the obligation to guarantee and support the exercise of a free press.

For its part, the Colombian Attorney General’s Office indicated that, through the threat group of the Specialized Directorate against Human Rights Violations, “opened a criminal notice and is carrying out the corresponding investigative work” to determine who is behind the crimes. intimidations.

In this regard, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro said on Twitter that he has no relationship with the video of Camila Zuluaga. “Now they are trying to link this video to the presidency,” he said.

Camila Zuluaga said Thursday on Radio Caracol that people close to the president communicated with her from Casa de Nariño.

“The President of the Republic, I understand, answered me via Twitter. I look less and less at that social network, precisely because of what I said yesterday in that letter that I read publicly, because of what Twitter has become and how it has become a space of constant polarization and attack,” the journalist told Radio Snail.

He added that President Gustavo Petro should be more responsible with his comments on his social networks.

“He knows the power of his Twitter, but he has to be aware that this generation of hate on social networks can move to the physical world,” he said.

Camila Zuluaga is a journalist and political scientist. In October 2015, she received the Simón Bolívar National Journalism Award in the “best radio news” category, while in 2021 she won the Simón Bolívar Award in the “best radio interview” category.
