The Colombian President, Gustavo Petroconfirmed this Friday the news of the discovery of the four children who survived the plane crash in the jungle of Guaviare on May 1.

“They were alone. They themselves achieved an example of total survival. It will go down in history. Those children are today the children of peace and the children of Colombia.” the president asserted from the Catam air base, where he landed after signing the bilateral ceasefire with the ELN guerrillas this Friday.

He also assured that if the doctors who are carrying out the first check-ups on the children authorize them, they will be transferred to Bogota or Villavicencio.

“Tomorrow (Saturday) I will try to talk to them. Tomorrow my daughter turns 15 so she is a good gift for my daughter and a good gift for Colombia. It is a gift to life, which is what our children cared for by the jungle means,” added the head of state.

In addition, he did not rule out traveling to meet the children, but he clarified that everything will depend on the doctors’ decision.

The Head of State also highlighted the articulation between the Military Forces and the indigenous people, key to the miraculous discovery.
