This is what is known about the case and what is coming to Trump:

“The classified documents that Trump stored in his boxes included information about the defense and weapons capabilities of both the United States and other countries; United States nuclear programs; potential vulnerabilities to military attacks by the United States and its allies; and plans for possible retaliation in response to a foreign attack.” says the prosecutor’s text.

Add that sea-a-lake “was not an authorized place” for the “storage, possession, review, display or discussion” of classified documents.

One of the most striking parts of the prosecutor’s document is when it describes that boxes with documents they were stored in “a ballroom, a bathroom and shower, an office space, his bedroom, and a storage room.”

In addition, in 2021, on two occasions, Trump showed classified documents to others who did not have official authorization to review this type of material, the indictment adds.

Based on government data, Univisión details that throughout his presidency Trump he collected newspapers, news clippings, letters, notes, cards, photographs, official documents, and other materials in cardboard boxes that he kept at the White House.

On January 20, 2021, when Joe Biden He had already been sworn in as President of the United States, Trump ordered dozens of boxes to be brought to his Mar-a-Lago residence.

“From January through March 15, 2021, some of the Trump boxes were stored in the White and Gold Ballroom at Mar-a-Lago, where events and meetings were held. The Trump boxes were for a time stacked on the ballroom stage,” the prosecution says.

In May 2021, Trump He asked that some of the boxes be brought to his summer residence at The Bedminster Club in New Jersey.

The Prosecutor’s Office indicates that at least twice Trump disclosed the contents of some confidential documents.

During an interview with a writer preparing a book about his memoirs in July 2021, after he had already left the White House, Trump described a “plan of attack” to Iran which, according to him, was prepared at his request by the Department of Defense and a senior military official.

“As president, I could have declassified it,” the former president said, according to the prosecutor’s indictment. “Now I can’t, you know, but this is still a secret”he added.

The US Department of Justice also said that in August or September 2021, Trump He showed a classified map related to a military operation against another country to a representative of his political action committee who did not have a security clearance for it.

Trump told the representative that he “shouldn’t show it to them” and that they “shouldn’t get too close,” according to the indictment.

The prosecutor’s accusation jack smith lists a total of 37 charges against Trump: 31 counts for deliberate withholding of classified documents and the rest for obstruction of justice, corruptly concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, and making false statements.

Some of these crimes carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

Univisión explained that the United States justice system requests prison for a defendant in cases of flight hazard or if it is a dangerous offender that poses a threat to the community or that has violent criminal record. None of these cases would reach Trump.

Now, if Trump does not comply with the order to appear in court, yes he would be treated as a federal fugitive and restricted in his ability to campaign for the Presidency of the United States.

In the United States, the prosecution of all defendants includes the fingerprintingthe defendant’s photograph and, in some cases, taking a DNA sample.

It should be remembered that Trump He was already subjected to the same procedure in New York during his first charge, for payment to the porn actress Stormy Daniels and two other people. The photograph of him has not been made public.

the special prosecutor jack smith He said Friday that his office will seek a “speedy trial” against Trump.

Univisión explained that according to the law, a speedy trial should begin no later than 70 days after the charges against the accused were filed.

The news channel specified that this is possible as long as Trump’s lawyers do not file appeals to delay the trial until after the November 2024 election.

Alina Habba, one of Donald Trump’s lawyers, said he would “never plead guilty” and ruled out a plea bargain.

Trump himself announced on Thursday that he was going to be charged and said in a video: “I am an innocent man. I did not do anything wrong”.

The Constitution of the United States does not prevent any defendant of a federal crime, or even if convicted, from running for the Presidency of the United States or prohibit him from holding office.
