The European Union warns Russia that there will be “consequences” if it holds elections in occupied areas of Ukraine

The European Union (EU) warned today of “consequences” to Russia and to all the people involved in the organization of elections that the community bloc considers “illegal” on September 10 in the four regions ukrainian annexed in the middle of the war.

Russiaits political leadership and all those involved in the organization of these so-called elections will suffer the consequences of their illegal actions”, stressed in a statement andl European External Action Service (EEAS) who directs the Spanish Josep Borrell.

The community club noted that these elections would be “yet another violation of international law” and “one more attempt by Russia to try to legitimize its military and legal control” and the attempted annexation of the Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhia and Khersonin addition to crimea and Sevastopol.

In the same line, the European Union denounces that these potential electoral processes “violate the 0 and the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia announced this Thursday the holding of local elections on September 10 in the four annexed Ukrainian regions the day after it was requested by the interim governors imposed by the Kremlin in Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson.
