Maduro orders the military to “clean” the entire Venezuelan Amazon from illegal mining

The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduroordered this Monday to the Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) continue with their “battle” in the south of the country for “clean” of illegal mining the entire region of the amazonwhich borders Brazil and Colombia.

He assured that every night he receives “complete reports with photographs” by the FANB Strategic Operational Command in which they inform you of “all the work of protection, defense and cleaning of the Venezuelan Amazon”.

It is, he explained, “illegal miners” from Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil and of Asia that “have caused serious destruction to national parks”.

We are waging a battle for the defense of the deep Amazon, of the Venezuelan jungle, of the Venezuelan rivers, of the parks (…) we are going to guarantee our healthy jungle, an Amazon that goes to reforestation, is the commitment that we have with our people and they are also commitments of an international nature“, held.

In the last two years, the Venezuelan government has intensified the fight against illegal mining in the Amazon states, which has left dozens of detainees and numerous complaints from NGOs about alleged abuses of authority by the military against indigenous communities.

Venezuela has called on Colombia and Brazil to celebrate “soon” a South American summit in defense of the Amazon, an appointment that has not yet materialized and that would include the rest of the countries that make up this region: bolivian, Ecuador, guyana, Peru, Surinam and french guiana.
