A latrine, a PlayStation controller and overcrowded: this is traveling in the Titan submersible

The size of the interior of the company’s submersible Ocean Gate it resembles that of a “minivan,” Mike Reiss, a writer-producer who worked on “The Simpsons” and undertook this same journey last year, told his podcast.

Reiss remembers that before the trip -that can cost up to $250,000– passengers must sign a “long resignation document that mentions the possibility of death three times on the first page.”

Reiss he described the journey as “a car you drive drunk across the ocean”.

Without a radio and without GPS, the crew members have 96 hours of oxygen. This Wednesday, the submersible only has between 14 and 16 hours of oxygen left after it disappeared on Sunday, so rescue teams are working against the clock and travelers have “limited rations” of food.

As if that were not enough, if he submersible spends a long time at the bottom of the sea, the crew faces very low temperatures with a cold just above freezing point and the possibility of developing hypothermia.

Pogue pointed out that on the trip “you are on your own” and there is only one way out: “There are no reinforcements, there is no escape route, it is to reach the surface or die.”
