US Coast Guard Investigates Titan Submersible Tragedy

The United States Coast Guard announced this Sunday an investigation into the implosion that destroyed the submersible Titanand killed the five people who were traveling towards the remains of the titanic.

The Guard said he formed a board of marine inquiry (MBI)its highest level of investigation for this tragedy in the North Atlantic which attracted worldwide attention.

“My main objective is to avoid a similar incident by making the necessary recommendations to improve the security of the maritime domain throughout the world”said Jason Neubauer, Chief of Investigation for the Coast Guard and leader of this investigation, at a press conference in Boston.

“He MBI It is already in its initial phase of collecting evidence, including debris rescue operations at the scene of the incident.”he added.

Neubauer said the US investigation could also make recommendations about the possible pursuit of civil or criminal sanctions “if necessary.”

Titan was reported missing last Sunday and the Coast Guard said on Thursday that all five people aboard the sub were dead after the ship suffered a catastrophic implosion.

A debris field was found at the bottom of the sea, 500 meters from the bow of the titanicwhich is located almost 4 km from the ocean surface and about 600 km off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Canadawhich helped search for the submersible, said Saturday it was conducting its own investigation.

The Canadian-flagged cargo ship Polar Prince towed the Titan out to sea last weekend, but lost contact with it an hour and 45 minutes after the submersible plunged into the ocean depths.

The announcement of the implosion capped a multinational search-and-rescue operation that has gripped the world’s attention since the tourist boat went missing.
