Ukraine ‘deserves’ to be a NATO member, says Erdogan

Ukraine “deserves” to be incorporated into the NATOconsidered this Friday the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdoganafter a meeting in Istanbul with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukraine wishes to join the military organization but USA warned this Friday that the former Soviet republic “will not join the NATO after the summit that the alliance will hold on July 11 and 12 in Vilnius (Lithuania).

Erdogan further announced that the Russian president, Vladimir Putinwill visit Türkiye “next month” and considered that Moscow and kyiv “should return to peace negotiations.”

The Turkish head of state also expressed his wish that the agreement to allow the export of Ukrainian grains, reached in July 2022 and sponsored by United Nations and Türkiyebe prolonged.

“We have studied how we could prolong the agreement [de exportación de granos ucranianos] beyond July 17. Perhaps reviewing it every three months is what we hope for”Erdogan said during a joint press conference with Zelensky.

“We have talked about it. [con el presidente ucraniano] tonight and I hope we talk about it with him [Putin] next month”indicated.

However, Russia recently stated that he did not see “no reason” to prolong the agreement.
