Controversy in France over the aggressive arrest of the brother of a young black man who died in 2016

The violent arrest in Paris of the brother of a young black man, whose death in 2016 became a symbol of police violence, sparked controversy in Francewhere several demonstrations were called on Sunday.

Youssouf Traore was arrested on Saturday during a banned demonstration involving 2,000 people to pay tribute to the memory of his brother, Adamawho died shortly after his arrest by the gendarmes in July 2016 in the region of Paris.

Video of his arrest, filmed by witnesses, shows him resisting police before being tackled to the ground by several officers.

Youssouf Traore was injured in the eye and was hospitalized.

Left parties, associations and unions called for a mobilization “massive” this Sunday in Paris.

The arrest takes place in a very tense context in France since the death on June 27, Nahel17, at the hands of police during a traffic control near Paris.

His death, filmed in a video that went viral, sparked an unprecedented six nights of urban riots in the country since 2005.
