ELN temporarily suspends “armed strike” in Colombia to deliver humanitarian aid

However, the Ombudsman pointed out that the aid has not been able to reach the communities confined in the area of ​​the San Juana subregion where the THE N and the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AGC), the main criminal gang in the country and also known as gulf clan.

The suspension of the strike happened yesterday and today for the opening of the corridor, so it is expected to resume soon, according to official sources confirmed to EFE.

In armed strikes, the guerrillas usually restrict the movement of vehicles on roads, the mobility of people and even order the closure of shops, as well as committing attacks and threatening anyone who does not comply with these regulations.

In this sense, according to the Ombudsman, there are 9,000 affected people who live in 52 communities located in the municipalities of Novita, sipi, isthmina, San Juan coastline and middle san john.

For this reason, Camargo expressed that the temporary suspension of the strike “reveals the seriousness of the effects that it is causing in the civilian population”.

All this has occurred during the beginning of the cessation of offensive actions ordered by the Central Command of the guerrilla to all its troops, which started last Thursday as a prelude to the bilateral ceasefire agreed with the Government that will come into force on August 3.

In this context, Camargo asked the guerrillas “put an end to this armed strike as soon as possible”, which has already completed six days and has affected the communities.
