Laschet insists on forming a government in Germany, despite poor results from the CDU

The candidate for the German Chancellery of the conservative bloc, Armin Laschet, on Sunday insisted on his objective of forming a coalition government, despite the fact that his party achieved the worst result in its history and according to partial figures it will be relegated to second place by the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

“Whoever wants to be chancellor has to manage to unite several parliamentary groups in the Bundestag. On Germany the majority party has not always been the party that elects the chancellor ”, said Laschet in a joint program on German television with the leaders of the other parties.

“It is not about achieving an arithmetic majority but about achieving an alliance in which each partner is recognized. That in the end did not happen with the grand coalition “He added in reference to the agreement that linked the conservatives with the Social Democrats for the last four years.

Laschet He also recalled that the results are not yet firm and that the differences with the SPD are narrow.

“We do not have the complete results. Only the one who obtains a majority in the Bundestag. The important thing is to define the programmatic themes “, said.

“A situation like that of now in which on the night of the elections it is not yet known who will be chancellor, we had not had it a long time ago in Germany”, acknowledged.

A future government, according to LaschetIt would have to bring together diverse social currents.

Laschet He said on the other hand that the negotiations, although they may last because they will be complicated because three parties will be needed, they should be done as soon as possible.

To do this, he suggested that the goals and major issues be defined first and then move on to the paths with which they can be achieved.
