The telluric movement, which according to the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Navy (SHOA) did not meet the conditions to generate a tsunami on the country’s coastswas felt from the central region of Valparaíso, to Los Lagos, about a thousand kilometers south of Santiago, the capital.
The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service indicated that the intensity of the tremor, whose epicenter was 75.21 km east of the town of Lonquimay (in the southern region of Araucanía)fluctuated between grade IV in the Metropolitan region and grade VII (light damage to ordinary structures) in the Maule region.
