Possible expiration of the Ukrainian grain agreement

Uncertainty remains today about the future of the Black Sea grains deal, considered key to world food, hours before it expires at midnight. Over the weekend, silence and prudence have surrounded the latest Turkish and UN-led maneuvers to persuade Moscow to extend the July 2022 Bosphorus grain deal. Over the past year, he has ensured the safe passage of cargo ships to and from Ukrainian ports, despite the war, transporting a total of almost 33 million tons of grain destined for world markets. But Russia did not give the green light, and the Black Sea Grain Initiative de facto froze.

“Since June 27, not a single request for passage has been approved by all parties,” the Joint Coordination Center (JCC), which oversees the agreement in Istanbul, said in a statement.

The latest cargo inspected by the inspectors of the four signatories, the Turkish bulk carrier TQ Samsun, left the Ukrainian port of Odessa on Sunday and is bound for Istanbul, Marine Traffic reports.

Putin has repeatedly denounced the obstacles to the export of Russian food and fertilizers, which were supposed to accompany the export of Ukrainian goods.
