A plane with the message “Benedict XVI has never abdicated” flies over Rome

An airplane carrying a sign with the message “Benedict XVI has never abdicated” has been flying over the beaches of the coast of Rome without being able to determine its origin.

The poster was seen and photographed on Sunday afternoon flying low over the beach of ostiathe coastal neighborhood of the Italian capital, and was also sighted in other locations further south, while the local press investigates whether it is an advertising strategy or a conspiracy theory.

Since a book was recently published promoting the thesis that the resignation of Benedict XVI was null, some attributed the message to an advertisement that its author, Andrea Cioncihas already flatly denied the Roman newspaper Il Messaggero.

For his part, since his abdication to the papacy in 2013, conspiracy theories have been circulating on the internet that question the legitimacy and will behind the complaint and that have been emphatically denied by official sources.

In fact, given the doubts raised even by some journalists, the Benedict XVI Ratzinger sent a letter in 2014 in which he assured that there was no “the slightest doubt about the validity” of his resignation, which was entirely voluntary.

The company that manages the contracts for airplanes with advertising messages has not made public the client who has commissioned such a service either and another theory, reported by local newspapers, is that it would be a message corresponding to a filming.

Benedict XVI died on December 31 at the age of 95 in the residence Vatican Mater Ecclesiaewhere he lived for a decade after his abdication to the papacy with his secretary Georg Gänswein.

Gänswein66, had been responsible for the pontifical housea kind of chief of protocol, but was pushed aside by the Pope Francisco in 2020 so that he could deal more directly with the health of the elderly pontiff emeritus, although he maintained the title, as he denounced in his memoirs “Nient’altro che la verità” (Nothing but the truth).

After the death of the German pontiff, the pope Francisco shipment Gänswein to its home office in Freiburgin Germany.
